I wouldn't go off and say this was a terrible book. It wasn't terrible in the sense of bad writing or the authors didn't do their homework first, all that was great. This is just a good book for someone who hasn't read ánything by an apologetic before. Or for that matter is possibly beginning their journey and want to get the basics down before they dive into deeper richer content. This is one of many you could pick from, and I just don't think this one would be exactly it.
Having a paternal great-grandmother as an immigrant from Germany I was really excited to read this book. Since she is long since passed I wasn't old enough to know to ask her questions about what life was like back then. This historical novel gives you a very clear picture of the hardships those immigrants faced coming to America. More than that it makes living now not seem quite so difficult. The book of course has an amazing love story that you wouldn't want to miss!
Here is another great read by Lisa Wingate! I have read all of her novels set in Moses Lake and some of the characters make it into each of them. It is a nice change with this one because the girl finds her love in the beginning! The rest of the story is about making a life together in a new town hundreds of miles from friends and family. Moses Lake has secrets and scandals and Mallory can't help but bring them to the surface. You wont be disappointed!
I will have to say by reading this amazing novel, I realized I was ignorant of the Reconstruction period in history. To say it honestly, I was ignorant of slavery altogether. Having said that, if you want what feels like a real life account of post-war South, this is the book for you. Once again Austin writes as if she was really there experiencing history in the making.

I like this series (Home to Hickory Hollow) because they are completely seperate books, you don't have to read them in order, yet some of the characters find their way into the different stories easily. I really enjoyed reading The Bridesmaid. It was quick, had a happy ending, and was very unlike Lewis's previous books.

What a fantastic book! There is no way I could recommend this book enough. You want a better relationship with your man, read it now! It is written by a man who seems to be extremely straight forward in speech. You WILL be offended and enlightened, however by the end you WILL know your husband.
The beginning of this book book through the beginning of manhood. How God made man, why he thinks, feels, talks, and acts the way he does. Man has "Provider" speaking in one ear and "Protector" speaking in the other ear. Provider and Protector are the basics. It easy after reading this to understand why a man does what he does. He can't help it.
The rest of the book goes through explaining a man's brain, soul, body and spirit. David Murrow doesn't hold anything back about man's secrets, longings and needs.
Appreciate him, respect him, love him, and initiate sex often... It's really that easy!

This year we will be "exploring countries and cultures" and the girls even get a passport (fake). I will post pictures when I can get them uploaded to my computer. I plan on keeping this blog up during this journey because frankly I'm interested in typing it so maybe someone out there will be interested in reading it!Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07267450023883318180noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8256786179773018574.post-71522042990749329272012-08-15T14:19:00.001-04:002012-08-15T14:19:49.932-04:00

Historical novels are great because you get drawn into a different time period where things are so incredibly different. The case is the same with Short Straw Bride. The characters Meredith and Travis are thrown into what we would think a ridiculously awful arrangement. Drawing straws to see who get to marry you would be nothing we would deal with now. Yet the story is so romantic that you can't help but love the simplicity. You won't be disappointed reading this novel.

This novel was enjoyable to say the least. I learned a lot about my own life and my own struggles reading about Susan and Julie. I was able to look at where I fall short with my marriage and my children in a different perspective.
Susan is the Martha of the bible and Julie is Mary. This book will definitely tug at your heart and make you look and where you need to grow and where you need to slow down. Balance being the key. When you are done you will think you have read the best self-help book ever.

I am a lover of crime dramas. The ones on the television anyway. I read Pattern of Wounds, which was my first mystery novel. I loved it, swore that was the route I would be going in my personal reading. Fast forward a year, having yet to pick up another mystery, I received Nothing to Hide from Bethany House in exchange for an honest review. It was FANTASTIC! The writing is so throughly thought out, planned, maneuvered, honest and real that it seems Bertrand himself is Roland March. These books would make great movies which usually isn't the case!Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07267450023883318180noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8256786179773018574.post-8687140634858537082012-07-19T13:55:00.000-04:002012-07-19T13:55:08.069-04:00

This was a great read from new author Becky Wade. Instead of ruining the book for you with spoilers, I am going to tell you my the reason I liked it so much. Wade did not overuse the use of God in the story. Some if not most contemporary romance throw the Lord in all too often to be overbearing and overdone. God was weaved throughout the story so naturally that it did not seemed at all forced upon the reader. Wade made God seem real and approachable!

The Fiddler by Beverly Lewis
I was definitely surprised on how well I liked this book. I generally love Beverly Lewis but her last book made me think she took all her previous books and made them into one. Having said that, I really liked The Fiddler. It was different from what Lewis usually writes. The characters seemed to be more realistic and you wanted things to work out between Amelia and Michael.I feel this book made me want to get to know the Amish a bit more.

You think you know just by observing muslim women in the US who and what they are. Or at least for me what I assumed wasn't exactly the case.

Audra and her family embark on a journey as missionaries in Yemen. The story is told about who these muslim women are behind the their modest clothing. I thought they wore those burqa's 24/7. I didn't think they ever did their hair or wore make-up! I also thought they were attached to their husband's side at every waking moment. Like I said do not assume you know anything about muslim women.

Their faith is something else altogether. Most of the women can't even read their quran. Their faith is told to them by word of mouth. They can't study for themselves and those who can have been manipulated into thinking good works is the only way to heaven.

Audra encountered some great women in her time in Yemen. The story ends and you are grasping to want to know more. What happened when she went back. How many people did she show the Light of Jesus and how many accepted?

This book gives you a renewed sense of Who loves you more than anything, Who you need to trust with all of your heart, and Who should you put your faith in!
This book was given to me by Bethany House for an honest review. all opinions expressed are my own.Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07267450023883318180noreply@blogger.com0
